Eagle Hawke diving centre
Eaglehawk Dive Centre overlooks Pirates Bay and the Tasman National Park and was established in November 1991. The area offers fabulous above water scenery, massive cliff formations towering up to 300 metres (1000ft) above sea level. These cliffs continue underwater and combined with the rich invertebrate life give spectacular diving. The geology of the region is primarily mudstone / sandstone / dolerite / granite that has, in some areas, been eroded to a very large degree offering huge caves, caverns and passageways.

The wrecks of the “SS TASMAN” in 70 metres (230ft), “SS NORD” in 40 metres (130ft) and the “ANDRE REBONCAS” in 6 metres (20ft) offer wreck diving for every level of experience.

Giant kelp forests (macrocystis pyrifera) towering from sometimes 30 metres to the surface give the diver the feeling of flying as they glide through the underwater answer to rain forests. These forests are home to many of the endemic species that can be found in Southeast Tasmania. You might see unique creatures such as sea dragons, hand fish and seals.

Self-contained accommodation at the dive centre is backpacker style at $18/night/person, bring a sleeping bag ($25 if we provide the bedding). Accommodation is also available for groups and families. For those on a budget camping at the dive centre is available.

Facilities at the dive centre include a wet laboratory for biologists and photographers, lodge, kitchen, showers, toilets, dive shop, classroom, and diver training pool and fill station. Divers are transported to and from the jetty in wet diver transporter (Toyota Troop Carrier).

Operates daily on demand for two or more divers all year round.
Adults: $37.00 to $55.00 with own gear
Adults: $112.00 to $175.00 with full gear hire
Learn to dive from $195.00 per person

Maria Island Walk
With its deserted beaches and spectacular coastal scenery, Maria Island is the perfect setting for this gentle four-day guided walk. The walk is a delightful blend of convict heritage, abundant wildlife and elegant accommodation all set in one of Australia’s most beautiful, tranquil island national parks.

By day, the small groups of up to eight guests plus two guides ramble along magnificent beaches and walk through the world’s largest Tasmanian blue gum forests exploring Maria’s fascinating convict sites.

At night, enjoy a gourmet meal while sharing a glass of fine Tasmanian wine with friends, before retiring to comfortable beds where you drift into a slumber to the murmur of lapping waves.

For the first two nights, enjoy elegant, private beachfront camps and for the final night stay in the heritage-listed Bernacchi House in the historic convict settlement of Darlington.

Carry light packs of 5-8kg with basic essentials (but not sleeping bags, which are provided at each camp) and walk 25km over four days. The walk generally skirts the coastline, unless you choose to climb the island’s summit for breathtaking views.

Maria Island has superb wildlife viewing with many unusual animals such as rare Tasmanian kangaroos and wallabies, wombats and echidnas, most of which roam around totally unafraid of visitors on their island sanctuary.

Maria Island is also renowned for its bird watching and The Maria Island Walk contributes to the Birds Australia conservation program by recording bird counts on each trip.

The four-day package starts and finishes in Hobart and guests need to be in Hobart the night before the trip. Hobart Airport drop-off at the conclusion of the trip is available.

Duration 4 Days
Adults $1549
Includes: All transport within Tasmania (including boat trip to Maria Island), three nights twin share accommodation, gourmet meals and fine Tasmanian wine, experienced guides, National park entrance fees and use of backpack and waterproof jacket

Water By Nature Tasmania 4 day Franklin River Rafting
* Eco Conference Special* $1170 Normally $1460

Wilderness Whitewater River Journeys

The Franklin River carves its way through some of the most beautiful,
rugged and inaccessible country in the world. Its significance was recognised
in 1982 when it was listed as a World Heritage Area

On your expedition you will experience surging rapids, tranquil gorges
and pristine forests of myrtle, leatherwood and the ancient huon pine.
Platypus, wallabies, quolls (marsupial tiger cats), cormorants and white
breasted sea eagles are often encountered.

Negotiating the untamed waters of the Franklin is one of the worlds true
adventures

Water by Nature offers a ten day expedition rafting the full navigable
length of the river, a seven day expedition on the Upper Franklin and
a five day tour on the Lower Franklin. Our seven and ten day tours include
a day walk (optional) to the imposing Frenchman's Cap 1443 metres, as
well as rafting through one of Tasmanias deepest and most impressive
gorges. On the five and ten day departures you will enjoy a spectacular
seaplane flight to Strahan.

Our guides are trained in wilderness rafting, campcraft, first aid
and environmental interpretation. Our senior guide has been running
commercial tours on the Franklin since 1987 for Wildtrek and Peregrine.
Some rapids require portaging, however we have developed safe and efficient
methods of negotiating them.

Delicious and nutritious cuisine is prepared with fresh Tasmanian produce.
If you have any special dietary requirements just let us know in advance.
We practice the art of minimal impact travel through this delicate
environment and make sure that we carry out all waste.

Each expedition uses two guides and two rafts paddled by a crew of
two to five, with a maximum of ten people per departure. You are issued
a waterproof drybag (~ 60 litre) to store your personal clothing and
sleeping bag. Each trip has a spare day built in to cope with possible
delays.

It may be possible to customise your tour if you have a group. The
minimum age is 16 years, or lower by arrangement. There is no maximum
age limit. Several people in their seventies have successfully completed
river trips. No previous rafting experience necessary.
Please enquire regarding discounts for groups and on selected 5 Day
departures.
