Our Programs:
Ecotourism Certification
The Ecotourism Certification Program is Ecotourism Australia's flagship program.
Ecotourism certification is for nature tourism operators and it provides industry, protected area managers, local communities and travellers with an assurance that the certified experience is backed by a commitment to best practice ecological sustainability, natural area management and the provision of quality ecotourism experiences.
Developed in Australia in 1996, the Ecotourism certification was the first environmental certification for the tourism industry in the world.
Respecting Our Culture (ROC) Certification
The Respecting Our Culture (ROC) Program is a tourism industry development tool designed by Aboriginal Tourism Australia (ATA) and administered by Ecotourism Australia.
The ROC program was produced through an extensive and ongoing national consultation by ATA with Indigenous communities, industry stakeholders and tourism operators. ROC embraces national accreditation standards to ensure tourism experiences meet customer expectations in a professional and sustainable way. It also encourages the industry to operate with respect for Indigenous cultural heritage.
Climate Action Certification
The Climate Action Certification Program is dedicated to recognising efforts by the tourism industry to reduce carbon emissions. It is designed for all sectors of the tourism industry, regardless of size and level of carbon reduction already undertaken. Certified operators will include the tourism hotels, attractions, tours, transport, restaurants, travel agents, tourism commissions and industry bodies.
EcoGuide Certification
The EcoGuide Australia Certification Program is an industry driven certification program for nature and ecotourism guides. It provides an industry credential that rewards guides that achieve specified competencies and standards. The program is designed to enhance Guides competencies, and assess a Guides skills, knowledge, personal attributes and actions. The EcoGuide Australia Certification Program compliments and supports the Ecotourism Certification Program.
