Alastair is a principal of HSC International, a tourism development, strategy and hospitality management and marketing consultancy, and Director of Living Communities – a tourism and lifestyle property developer based in Queensland.
Alastair has over 25 years in the hotel, tourism and development industries focusing on sustainable development, environmental best practice and management. In senior management roles he has opened new hotels with Hilton International in Cairns, Adelaide and Sydney, at Hamilton Island Resort, and more recently with Hyatt International in Sydney, Bali, Chicago and Coolum.
In the role of General Manager of Couran Cove Island Resort at South Stradbroke Island in South East Queensland, Alastair was a leader of the team which founded one of Australia’s first integrated, eco-tourism operations. Couran’s 23 national and international awards for design, construction and operation are testimony to his experienced leadership at the forefront of ecologically sustainable tourism. Alastair remains a Director of InterPacific Resorts (Australia) Pty Ltd, owner of Couran Cove Island Resort.
Alastair is currently overseeing the development of “The Ridge on Binna Burra”, a resort village, conference centre and holistic education retreat at Binna Burra in the Lamington National Park. Alastair is a Board member of The Ethos Foundation, established for the purpose of furthering education in sustainable development and the change in thinking, values and action necessary to create a more healthy, just and sustainable world.
Alastair McCracken is also Chairman of Ecotourism Australia, the peak industry body representing Nature based tourism operators, and sits on the Advisory Council of Green Cross Australia.
