"Eco Tourism - The Federal Group's Approach to Freycinet"

The Federal group has been committed to Tasmania and Tasmanian Tourism for over thirty years.

In June 2002, the group acquired what it considered to be the finest tourism development site on the east coast of Tasmania, the "Freycinet Backpacker and Caravan Park". The twenty five acre site is situated at Coles Bay with stunning views over the Hazard granite ranges and Freycinet National Park. It has however been badly degraded over the years because of its previous use.

Coles Bay and the Freycinet National Park are two of the jewels of Tasmania and are home to one of the worlds most highly acclaimed beaches "Wineglass Bay".

The township of Coles Bay runs perilously low of fresh water during the peak summer visitor season and has difficultly dealing with sewage and wastewater treatment due to the impervious granite bedrock and use of outdated technology.

Federal's vision is to build a defining world class development on a rehabilitated site that meets the highest environmental standards in Australia. This will include the provision of long term first class sustainable solutions for fresh water and waste water treatment, not only to its own site, but also solutions capable of benefiting the whole community and other tourism operators.
