Biography:

Arthur Pedersen works with UNESCO's World Heritage Centre (WHC) on visitor management and tourism issues. He is currently WH representative to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, UNEP, RARE Centre for Tropical Conservation project entitled, "Linking Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Tourism at World Heritage Sites". In addition he is actively involved in developing the World Heritage Centre's new tourism programme.

Past experiences includes work in regional and site-specific tourism and recreation planning in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. This includes such varied topic as regional tourism strategies, national park management plans, tourism assessment and feasibility, creation of regional tourism organizations, and the development of practical tourism marketing-promotional strategies.

Much of his work has been aimed at balancing economic development and environmental impacts and he has worked on issues of tourism carrying capacity in fragile areas and in linking tourism benefits to local communities with the goal to aid protection and conservation efforts.
