Rowan Sproule joined Tourism
Tasmania at its inception in 1996. Now Acting Chief Executive
and Director Infrastructure and Research, he has held senior
roles in the areas of strategy and research, market development
and investment. During his time in the Authority, he has been
instrumental in the evolution of the new-look regional tourism
authorities and the cluster and touring route approach to
destination development. He has played a lead role in the
formulation of the widely acclaimed industry strategy Tourism
21 and in the State's innovative approach to access. He has
also presented at numerous national and state conferences
and forums, and has been published on development matters.
Rowan has a strong belief in tourism's potential to reshape
impressions of Tasmania in our key markets and instil pride
in Tasmanians for their home. The development of the highly
regarded research capability of Tourism Tasmania has been
a major focus of his work, echoing his view that a small
State like Tasmania with niche opportunities must be totally
customer-focussed in its business endeavours. Accordingly,
he has gained enormous professional satisfaction from assisting
many investors to bring new developments to fruition.
Rowan has represented Government on a number of Boards
and Authorities, including the Derwent Entertainment Centre
Management Authority, Targa Tasmania, and the Regional Tourism
Authorities, and also represents Tasmania on a range of
national tourism working parties and committees.
