Ecotourism Australia, with the support of SA Arid Lands, held an ECO Certification workshop for Flinders Ranges and Outback region ecotourism operators (Wednesday 25th June in Port Augusta). The workshop was a great success - giving operators an opportunity to complete their application with face-to-face coaching and also providing information on how to meet the National Landscapes conservation criteria. South Australian Tourism Industry Council were also there on the day to lend a hand with the Business Management requirements of certification. We look forward to having these wonderful operators certified and working with them further on their sustainability journey!
Applications are now open for The World Legacy Awards. The awards have been created through partnership between National Geographic Travel and ITB Berlin to showcase leading travel companies, organisations and destinations that are driving sustainable tourism principles and practices. The awards cover five categories: Earth Changers, Sense of Place, Conserving the Natural World, Engaging Communities, and Destination Leadership, honouring the companies, organisations, and destinations that are driving and promoting the positive change of the tourism industry. Winners and finalists will be selected by an international panel of judges, led by Costas Christ, one of the world's leading sustainable tourism experts and World Legacy Awards Chairman, and will receive coverage in National Geographic Traveler and other National Geographic print and digital media, reaching a global audience. In addition to being recognised at ITB Berlin in March 2015, winners will be featured in the National Geographic Traveller magazine and other global media. Applications close 20 August 2014.
The Inaugural Coral Bay Benefit Ball began last August, with the 2013 Manta Ray Black Tie Ball raising funds for Project Aware foundation’s Manta Rays at Risk Campaign. The event was a huge success with over $16,000 raised and our conservation efforts were recognised in both national and international media. Due to this success we have had overwhelming support in creating the Annual Coral Bay Benefit Ball to raise awareness and funds for local community projects. This year our focus is on recycling and waste disposal with particular emphasis on plastic waste and our oceans. The event will be held on August 29th in Coral Bay and tickets are on sale from July 15th.
