Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat is a multi award winning wellness destination in Queensland to help guests refocus on health. Ecotourism certified with innovative fully inclusive programs from 2 to 7 days, this dedicated low-tech retreat provides spacious natural surrounds on 200 hectares, specialty spa treatments, organic cuisine and key wellness seminars.
Gwinganna has been Ecotourism certified for over 10 years, with a strong environmental commitment from the day it opened. Importantly, water usage was and is still a key consideration along with recycling and wildlife care. Set on over 200 hectares of pristine bushland, Gwinganna has the largest organic gardens of any Australasian spa, reducing food miles and ensuring the freshest produce for guests.
Specialty staff include 2 organic gardeners to enhance environmental initiatives and educate guests in small group and private sessions including garden walks. Active bee hives have increased pollination and provide honey for the chefs to use.
Gwinganna works with local non-profit Wildcare Australia Inc, who rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned native wildlife with 13 koalas and 11 echidnas released on site to date. It is believed Gwinganna is the first and only spa retreat to be involved in translocating rescue animals. Certified with Land for Wildlife, all reservations include a donation to Wildcare Australia, totaling over $25000 to date.
An extensive environmental impact program includes energy efficiency, water treatment, composting and recycling. An in house sewage treatment plant reduces water waste and improves pasture for the equine therapy horses. The horses also produce manure to enrich the compost used to grow organic vegetables and herbs to nourish our guests. The spa is one of the most self-sufficient in the world for water usage and rainwater is used on the property with storage for 3.5 million litres of water. All swimming pools and cleaning products used are chemical free and environmental education is woven into the guest experience through seminars, garden walks, promotions and marketing.
