- View Website
Lady Elliot Island is located on the southern tip of Australia’s iconic Great Barrier Reef and is famous for its healthy coral reef and amazing array of marine life including turtles and majestic manta rays. Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort focuses on providing guests with a genuine ecotourism experience.
Operating an island resort 80km out to sea presents a multitude of challenges on a daily basis. The island generates its own power, desalinates seawater for drinking purposes, maintains a wastewater treatment plant and recycles the majority of its rubbish. Managing Director Peter Gash and his passionate team have introduced a range of innovative and sustainable environmental practices to ensure that the island and the surrounding reef remains in pristine condition. The Resort has a very impressive solar array and they have almost reached the goal of running the resort on 100% renewable energy.
Lady Elliot Island is a recovering mine site, it was mined for guano in the 1800’s, and the Resort’s Revegetation Program is working to restore the island’s natural coral cay ecosystem.
