Mike Ball Dive Expeditions operates exciting 3, 4 and 7 night liveaboard scuba diving expeditions departing from Cairns to some of the best dive sites on the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea. Enjoy spectacular biodiversity on the northern Great Barrier Reef including the world famous Cod Hole, or venture out into the remote Coral Sea for exciting big fish action, shark encounters and excellent visibility. Spoilsport is Australia’s most awarded dive liveaboard, custom built for diving and with a twin-hull design that maximises space, stability, and comfort. This 7 night expedition combines our Coral Sea and Cod Hole itineraries to provide an excellent circuit route, combining the adventure diving of the Coral Sea with the coral gardens and amazing biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef. Australia’s ultimate dive trip.
This 7 night and 650 mile expedition explores three unique regions: remote Coral Sea; the Far Northern Reefs & the superb Ribbon Reefs. This adventurous expedition visits reefs and sites that are rarely dived.
Our 3 night expedition starts with a stunning low-level scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef to Lizard Island where we board Spoilsport. Cruise back along the Ribbon Reefs visiting such dive sites as the famous Cod Hole, Pixie Pinnacle and the incredible Steve’s Bommie. All sites are between Lizard Island and Cooktown, far away from the busy dive sites out of Cairns.
A 4 night expedition cruising from Cairns to remote Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea, famed for its walls, big fish action and excellent visibility. If conditions allow we also visit Holmes and Bougainville Reefs, or alternatively we dive our spectacular Ribbon Reefs sites. The expedition ends with a stunning low-level scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef from Lizard Island Back to Cairns.
It is a truly remarkable moment when these big, beautiful whales slowly approach you and glide gracefully past. As you come eye to eye with these amazing marine creatures you’ll realise just how privileged we are to share the ocean with them. We hold one of the few permits that allow in-water interaction with these beautiful giants.
Each year we run Nautilus Expeditions, including a capture and release program for the James Cook University research department. Nautilus traps are set overnight at Osprey Reef and retrieved the next morning. Guests have the rare opportunity to observe, photograph and dive with these deep sea creatures.
A rare opportunity to visit the remote and pristine reefs of the far northern Great Barrier Reef. Dive with hundreds of turtles at Raine Island & descend on the historic Pandora Wreck of ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ fame.
