Sunlover Reef Cruises' award winning tours takes guests to explore two pristine outer reef locations, Moore and Arlington Reefs, and has long been committed to providing quality and enjoyable Great Barrier Reef experiences with the utmost respect for our environment. Our refurbished Marine Bases provide instant access to incredible marine life and corals, and are equipped with activities and facilities designed to create the ultimate reef experience for people of all ages and abilities – even non-swimmers.
Sunlover works closely with The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) in a number of ways:
Eye on the Reef
We monitor our Moore and Arlington Reef sites for trends of change to the environment. We also show guests how to complete the Eye on the Reef Rapid Monitoring Survey through our Marine Biologist for a Day experience, which directly contributes to the collection of information about reef health.
Crown of Thorn Starfish
We applied and received a permit in 2013 at the outset of the eradication program to allow us to actively participate in the suppression of the starfish, which pose a threat to the reef.
Master Reef Guides Program
Developed to educate guests about the reef environment, we are committed to providing ongoing support to our expert crew in achieving this status.
Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre
A voluntary non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of turtles. Sunlover assisted in the set up of the centre through donations, and continue to contribute through fundraising, transport of volunteers, and assisting with turtle releases from our Moore Reef Maine Base.
Reef Restoration Foundation
Sunlover is an early adopter of the initiative, which establishes ocean-based coral nurseries.
Arlington Reef is one of the largest & healthiest reef systems in the Great Barrier Reef and has had no commercial activity for over 20 years, leaving it as stunning example of a coral reef system untouched by mass tourism. The Arlington Special provides an express service straight to the reef for a full day experience during peak periods for visitors & on demand for groups.
Departing daily from Cairns on an air-conditioned Sunlover catamaran, you arrive at tropical paradise Fitzroy Island at 10.15am and have 6 hours to explore the island before the Sunlover picks you back up from the Fitzroy Island Jetty at 4.20pm and arrive back to Cairns at 5.30pm.
Based on GBRMPA’s Eye on the Reef program, Marine Biologist for a Day is linked to the Australian Curriculum and open to all groups (not just students). Topics include reef ecology, climate change impact, marine life identification, water quality, and predators. You will contribute to the monitoring of the reef through data collection that is given to the GBRMPA to assist with their research.
Departing Cairns daily to our Moore Reef Marine Base where guests can experience the reef for 4 full hours. Snorkeling, semi-submersible & glass bottom boat tours, underwater observatory, touch tank presentation & tropical buffet lunch with prawns are included. The kids will love the Sunlover Sunslide – the only theme park water slide on the reef.
An intimate, overnight experience on the outer reef on the Sunlover Marine Base. After an epic sunset wrap up in a swag, stargazing at the southern night sky as the sound of the water lulls you to sleep. The reef is yours to explore as our marine experts take you on snorkel safaris & glass bottom boat tour. Includes 2 full days at the reef.
Arlington Reef is home to Sunlover’s dedicated charter Marine Base. As a charterer you have exclusive use of the reef and facilities with a choice of timings, menu, branding and entertainment on the world's first dedicated venue moored on the Great Barrier Reef.
