Congratulations to Bedarra Island Resort for achieving Advanced Ecotourism and Climate Action Business Certification!
Ecotourism Australia extends a warm welcome to Bedarra Island Resort for achieving Advanced Ecotourism and Climate Action Business Certification!
Bedarra Island Resort is nestled amongst islands forming the renowned Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, located 10 kilometres offshore from the coastal village of Mission Beach. Escape into tropical barefoot heaven at Bedarra’s all-inclusive, luxury eco retreat.
The resort is comprised of ten private villas, 45 hectares of tropical rainforest in your backyard, and stunning views of turquoise tides and coral reefs in your front yard.
Care to enjoy the fresh air by wondering through trails throughout the rain forest, or out at sea kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing and island hopping. Alternatively, dive beneath the surface and explore the unique wonders and home of some of nature’s most bio-diverse marine wildlife.
In addition to this breathtaking environment, you might wonder how Bedarra contributes to maintaining this pristine beauty and commits to Ecotourism Australia’s environmental sustainability standards to achieve certification.
“We believe our guests appreciate that luxury doesn’t mean destroying the environment and hope the experience inspires them to adopt environmentally friendly strategies in their personal live. Guests are spoiled by our gourmet cuisine and beverage offerings, impeccable personalised service, and the pristine environment. All of this is achieved through dedication to ensure a minimal environmental footprint.” – Bedarra Island Resort.
Bedarra Island Resort has replaced their 3 x 185 Kva diesel powered generators with a state of the art off-grid hybrid solar system, coupled with a battery bank and a back-up generator. Since then, they have seen a drastic 97.5% reduction of diesel consumption. Low Power alternative appliances and electrical fittings were also installed throughout the resort.
Where there was once a diesel-powered desalination plant, now the resort uses storage tanks to hold fresh water sourced from plentiful tropical rainwater. Guests can experience these eco-initiatives from their own private villa as each has its very own solar hot water system, acting to significantly reduce energy consumption.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, is a system actively utilised at Bedarra Island Resort which has seen waste production significantly reduced. Preference is given to suppliers who avoid excessive packaging, all organic waste is decomposed in vegetable gardens and all aluminium waste is transported back to mainland for recycling.
If Bedarra Island Resort’s glorious World Heritage Protected Great Barrier Reef and ethereal tropical rainforest sounds like music to your ears and you applaud their extensive sustainability efforts, please visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
