PART TWO OF OUR NT ADVENTURE
This is the second part of two-part Northern Territory road trip article – check out where we’ve been so far here!
You’ve already discovered some of the NT’s best hidden gems. Now that you’ve enjoyed a few nights in Kakadu National Park, from here it’s only a short 5-hour drive west before Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory will welcome you! Along the way you will find plenty of fun stuff to do!
Intimate Cultural Experiences
Tess Atie at Northern Territory Indigenous Tours is a local Aboriginal woman who grew up in the area where Litchfield National Park nowadays lies. Her extensive local knowledge on the area will provide for an expert interpretation of the Northern Territory’s natural and cultural environment from an Aboriginal perspective. Visitors will have the chance to meet animals in the wild, learn about bush medicine and taste gourmet-prepared bush tucker. You might be wondering what could possibly top this? An intimate experience: participants on Northern Territory Indigenous Tours’ trips have the opportunity to be exclusive visitors to the Woolaning Spring. This is the private home of Tess’ family.

True Blue Aussie Adventures
If you’re looking for an experience that’s as Aussie as they come, Far Out Adventures will take you on trips you will never forget. You are invited to join Mike and his mates on ‘The Never Never Experience,’ which will take you on tour back in time, out into the wild and away from the constraints of modern life to experience the ‘real’ Australia. He and his friends will take you on bush tucker walks, catch fish out in the wild and collect native foods. Who’s in for an adventure?
If you’re looking for something a bit more comfortable, you will find a wide variety of tours at Lords Kakadu & Arnhemland Safaris. All their tours are performed in luxury 4WDs and designed to cater for visitors’ needs and wants. Tour duration varies from three days to three weeks, and visitors have the option to either camp or have their tour accommodated in local hotels. On tours with Lords Kakadu & Arnhemland Safaris, you will have access to the most culturally historic sites in top end Australia. They also employ local Aboriginal people to maximise local knowledge and enhance the visitor experience.

Another alternative specialised in Aboriginal cultural experiences, nature-based cruises and tours, is Kakadu Cultural Tours, which offers small group touring inside Arnhem Land and to the northern Kakadu area. They have access to places which are inaccessible to everyday people. Your tour guides will take you through stunning natural landscapes and give you an insight into traditional land ownership and the local environment. Tours are performed in comfortable 4WD vehicles and boats.
Congratulations: you’ve arrived in Darwin! While you’re here, check out Ethical Adventures NT, which endeavour to fuse responsible tourism, ecotourism and social action. Their Litchfield Wanderer small group tour takes in wildlife, heritage, animals and Aboriginal culture, all in a day – from sunrise to sunset.
City of Darwin Cruises
Do you fancy seeing the Top End a more comfortable way? Venture North Australia have you covered. They are specialised in small group touring and they will help you to escape the crowds. While on their tours, you will be travelling in luxury, air-conditioned 4WDs. Departing from Darwin, they provide tours across the entire Top End, including to Kakadu and the Cobourg Peninsula. They have also got exclusive access to Arnhem Land!
Last but not least, make sure you check in with City of Darwin Cruises, who offer unique experiences on sailing catamarans. Their tours leave a minimal carbon footprint and provide an excellent opportunity for wildlife viewing. Their small groups provide for a personal and relaxing experience. How do you feel about sunsets? Do you like them as much as we do? Great! One of the cruises they offer is a sunset cruise, and we think this might just be the perfect way to end your Northern Territory adventure.
