Always thought going on an ECO adventure meant packing up the trailer and driving hours until you reached nature’s best-preserved national park? Have you ever thought about going for an adventure in your backyard? While most of us think we must leave our homes and travel as far as possible to go on holidays, there are so many things to explore just in front of our doorsteps.
Nature is everywhere, from national parks and bushlands right through to the rural and urban landscapes we live in, and that it is why it is so important, regardless of where you live in Australia. Not only is nature essential to our health, wellbeing and quality of life, our economy depends on it and Australia’s nature is so unique and diverse that we have a responsibility to ourselves and the rest of the world to protect and conserve it.
The 4th of October 2017 is World Animal Day and we would like to acknowledge and celebrate a few of our certificated operators who contribute and support this year’s mission- ‘To raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe’.
The 2015 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards Gala Night took place last Friday, with some of Australia’s best tourism operators on display. Ecotourism Australia was thrilled to see 38 of our members represented, taking home 17 well-earned awards, and making up 22% of all award winners.
Ecotourism Australia would like to wish the best of luck to all 38 of our members who have made it through as finalists in the 2015 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards!
Over the past four weeks, the winners of State Tourism Awards have been announced at gala nights across the country and Ecotourism Australia (EA) has been thrilled to see our members make up 25% of winners in eligible categories. Fifty one (51) EA members, making up over 10% of EA’s total membership base, took home seventy one (71) awards this year. A remarkable result with better than one in ten members of Ecotourism Australia being acknowledged as winners at the State Tourism Awards.
Congratulations to Taronga and partners the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA) and TRAFFIC, who were recently awarded as finalists in the Google Impact Challenge for their project, The Wildlife Witness app.
